Pool and Spa Motor Help Section

There are basically 4 types of motors that you will need to know about when you are looking to replace your pool or spa pump motor. In this help section you will learn which motor is used for your application and what are some common problems that arise when using a pool or spa motor. We will try our best to find you a replacement motor for your pool pump or spa pump although we cannot guarantee that our choice will be a perfect fit without some adjustments.

Listed below are the 4 types of pool and spa motors used in the industry today.

48 Frame Motor
Used for above ground pools and small spas.
56J Frame Motor
Used for in-ground pools and spas. This motor has a threaded shaft. Standard 56 Frame.
56C Frame Motor
Used for in-ground pools and spas. This motor has a keyed shaft. Standard 56 Frame.
56Y Frame Motor
Used for in-ground pools and spas. This motor has a square flange. Standard 56 Frame.

When choosing a replacement motor make sure you select a correct motor frame based on the criteria above. If you are unsure about which pool/spa motor frame you have, use this form to contact us or try taking a look at the informational sticker (nameplate) on your motor.

The next step to selecting a replacement motor for your pool or spa pump is selecting the Horse Power (HP). This should be located on the nameplate of your current motor listed under HP.

The nameplate should also indicate what voltage (115V or 230V) you are running your motor.

The last piece of information, also found on the nameplate, is the RPM. This will determine the speed of your motor. You will find that your motor is running at either 3450 RPM (1 speed) or 3450/1725 RPM (2 speed).

If you have all of the above information, you should be able to select a motor from our Pool and Spa Motors without a problem.
